Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about PSPs, modding, and our services.

What is a PSP?
+

The PSP (PlayStation Portable) is a handheld gaming console made by Sony, first released in 2004 in Japan and 2005 in North America. It was groundbreaking for its time — a widescreen device that could play games, movies, music, and browse the internet. It was essentially the iPhone before there was an iPhone. Watch a quick overview →

What can you do with a modded PSP?
+

With custom firmware, a PSP becomes one of the most versatile retro devices available:

  • Play PSP, PS1, SNES, NES, Genesis, GBA, and N64 games via emulators
  • Watch movies and TV shows on the widescreen display
  • Listen to music with background playback
  • Customize themes, icons, boot screens, and fonts
  • Run homebrew apps and plugins

All without social media distractions. See it in action →

What is custom firmware (CFW) and is it legal?
+

Yes, it's perfectly legal. CFW is modified system software that unlocks features Sony originally locked — think of it like jailbreaking a phone. Modifying your own device is legal.

What's not legal: Downloading pirated game ISOs you don't own. We recommend only using homebrew and games you legally own.

Modern CFW options include Infinity 2.0 (persistent, survives reboots) and Adrenaline for PS Vita running PSP software.

Can I brick my PSP installing CFW?
+

Very unlikely with modern CFW. To be safe: make sure your PSP is fully charged, use a reliable Memory Stick, follow the guide exactly, and don't interrupt the process. All consoles we sell come with CFW already installed and tested — you don't need to do anything yourself.

Which PSP model should I buy?
+

PSP-3000 — Best overall. Improved LCD, built-in mic, TV-out, 64MB RAM, full CFW support.

PSP-2000 — Great all-rounder. Same RAM as 3000, TV-out, slimmer design.

PSP-1000 — Original fat model. Most durable, but only 32MB RAM, no TV-out. Great for collectors.

PSP Go — No UMD drive (digital only), 16GB built-in, sleekest design.

How do I fix no sound on the N64 app?
+
  1. While in an N64 game, press the Menu/PS Button
  2. Go to "Edit Preferences"
  3. Under "Audio", choose Asynchronous (Fast/Buggy)
  4. Click "Save & Return" and resume your game

How do I swap the X and O buttons?
+
  1. Press the Select button to open the VSH menu
  2. Scroll to "Advanced VSH menu"
  3. Find "Button Swap" and toggle it
  4. Exit and restart your PSP to apply

What's the max Memory Stick size?
+

Official Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo cards go up to 32GB. With a Micro SD adapter, you can use Micro SD cards up to 128GB. We recommend SanDisk or Samsung cards with a quality adapter.

My PSP won't turn on. What should I do?
+
  • Charge the battery for 1–2 hours using the AC adapter
  • Try a different battery if available
  • Hold the power switch up for 5–10 seconds (hard reset)
  • Remove the Memory Stick and battery, wait 30 seconds, retry

If none of these work, contact us — it may need a repair.
